According to data gathered for Inc. by social intelligence company Synthesio, Zuckerberg received 14,506 mentions on Twitter and other social platforms between May 2 and May 8. The previous week he had gotten more mentions (17,996), but was second to Tesla founder Elon Musk among the 25 top tech CEOs Synthesio tracks.

The euro's decline following the hint dropped by the European Central Bank (ECB) last Thursday that it may ease its policy stance early next month is a trading event with little, if any, message for investors in euro-denominated assets. There are two major reasons for that. First, the ECB has no effective policy instruments to weaken the euro/dollar exchange rate in a credible and sustained fashion. All they can do is: (a) try to talk the euro down by saying, as they did last week, that fundamentals don't warrant the currency's appreciation, (b) drive money market rates to zero from 0.25 percent, and (c) engage in selective asset purchases that would be consistent with the bank's restrictive mandate.

Emerging market assets have suffered through a brutal selloff, but now the sentiment tide is taking a sharper turn toward the once-shunned segment. "It's been a tough 12-18 months for emerging markets. We find that positioning in these markets just broadly across the region is at its lowest point in years," Gokul Laroia, co-CEO for Asia Pacific at Morgan Stanley, told CNBC. "There's good reason for this. These markets are experiencing a growth slowdown. I don't believe that is going to reverse itself anytime soon," Laroia said. But he added, "at this point we feel these markets are under owned for sure, undervalued selectively and present opportunity. And over the next 12-18 months, we're very positive. We think that this cycle is going to turn."

To pick a winning stock at the start of March, you had to find a company that was hated by analysts, adored by short sellers, avoided by institutional buyers and averse to doing just about anything but pay dividends. Shares with those characteristics have generated returns of as much as 5.8 percent even as the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index (SPX) stood still, data compiled by Bespoke Investment Group LLC and Bloomberg show. The unlikelihood of arriving at such a blueprint after a five-year bull market is taking a toll on asset managers, with more than 80 percent of growth and value funds trailing benchmarks in 2014. For investors coming back to the market just as losses in Internet shares approach 20 percent, it’s a lesson on how little past performance says about the future.

The differing reactions underline the seemingly odd cultural fit between the world’s most valuable company and a celebrity-fronted Santa Monica, California-based provider of headphones and online music. Beats executives are known to throw lavish parties and have musicians traipsing through at all hours, while Apple is an engineering haven for coders and designers.
