Yoruba leaders, under the aegis of Yoruba Unity Forum (YUF), have concluded plans to take drastic action against the insurgence of the Boko Haram sect into the South-west geo-political zone.

The dignitaries at the meeting included a former International Court of Justice judge, Prince Bola Ajibola (SAN), former Lagos State Governor, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuade, former National Chairman, Alliance for Democracy (AD), Senator Mojisoluwa Akinfenwa, former Minister of Transport, Chief Ebenezer Babatope, former Minister of Health, Professor Adenike Grange and former Head of Service, Professor Oladapo Afolabi.

Others include the Ondo State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Alli Olanusi, former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Senator Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele, Senator Bode Olajumoke, Senator Femi Okurounmu, Chief Deji Ariyibi, Senator Iyabo Anisulowo, Senator Anthony Adefuye, National Coordinator, Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Otunba Gani Adams, and Most Rev. Ayo Ladigbolu.

The leaders who converged at Ikenne, Ogun State, the country home of the late sage,  Chief Obafemi Awolowo, also deferred the adoption of the Southern Nigeria Peoples Assembly (SNPA) draft constitution to a later date.
The SNPA was jointly set up in July in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, by delegates from the South-south, South-east and South-west geo-political zones.

A communique signed by Gbonigi and Senator Femi Okurounmu and made available to journalists, stated that the meeting unanimously endorsed the report of the Uyo meeting and ratified its decision.

“The meeting examined seriously the security situation in Yorubaland, the possibility of Boko Haram incursion into the zone and took proactive steps to ensure the zone is not caught unprepared,” he added.

It said the meeting further resolved to intensify efforts to ensure that Yorubas, who have not yet identified with YUF, are brought into the fold soonest.
