As some early galaxies created stars thousands of times faster than our Milky Way Galaxy does today, the world’s leading phone manufacturer, Samsung seems to be creating smartphones faster than any one else right now.

Its latest smartphone called the Galaxy Star announced in April 2013 has made its way into the Nigerian market “providing consumers with the opportunity to own a device with features of a high-end smartphone at a much lower cost.”

The entry-level smartphone which features a dual-SIM functionality, is powered by an A5 1GHz processor and runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) operating system.

With a 3-inch touch screen, 2 megapixel camera, 512 MB RAM and 4GB internal memory, the company expects that with these features and functionality, more and more feature phone users would upgrade to the Samsung Galaxy Star smartphones.

Although the device is already being sold at Samsung stores and accredited dealers nationwide, Samsung will be officially unveiling the device in June, alongside a competition targeted at the Nigerian youth who are pursuing a career as videographers and film makers.

Interested participants are expected to shoot a video using the Galaxy Star smartphone and upload same on Samsung’s website between June 3 and July 7, 2013. After which, the top 20 videos will be shortlisted via public voting and ten finalists will be selected for an all-expense paid trip to Dubai, where they will attend training seminars and workshops to hone their skills in video production and directing, in collaboration with a renowned Nigerian film producer.

The “Galaxy Star Campaign” is one of several youth empowerment projects undertaken by the company over the past few years, as part of its corporate social investment initiatives.
