The National President of the Democratic Advancement Option (DAO), Abdullahi Garba, has described Vice-President Namadi Sambo as a strong political asset to the North and a pillar of support for President Goodluck Jonathan in ensuring the steady progress of the nation and the delivery of democratic dividends to Nigerians.

Garba in a press statement issued in Kaduna and made available to THISDAY yesterday, further stated that rather than refer to the Sambo as a liability, “he should be regarded as an asset who has been a pillar of support for the president in ensuring the steady progress of the nation and the delivery of democratic dividends to Nigerians including the North-west zone. The concept of one presidency, one mandate and one voice still holds”

He described the statement credited President of the Northern Women Peace Forum (NWPF), Hajiya Binta Kuraye, alluding the unpopularity of President Goodluck Jonathan in the North-west zone as a mere campaign of calumny to portray the president in bad light as his achievements in the zone are a measure of his popularity

“Why then will she say that Jonathan is unpopular? Is that a sign of someone who loves Jonathan or one that is working against him. Binta is from Kuraye in Katsina State and her comments in the said publication that only the governors are the ones performing can only refer to her state governor whom we all know is angling for the vice president’s job. His printed posters that adorn the streets of Kaduna together with that of the president, is a testimony of this assertion.”

Abdullahi, who reeled out the achievements of the Jonathan administration in the North-west in terms of project delivery and his giant strides in uplifting the zone through job creation and agricultural transformation as well as other sensitive programmes of government like the SURE-P, whose chairman is from the zone.
He noted that all the political office holders in the zone are working round-the-clock to ensure the victory of the party and the president.
He specifically noted the efforts of all stakeholders is to endorse President Jonathan and the move to galvanise more votes from the zone to ensure the party’s victory.

The DAO president added that prior to the defection by some governors, the zone was entirely PDP except for Zamfara State. Some of those who won the elections at that time, did so due to the popularity of President Goodluck Jonathan and that should the president decide to contest today, it is one of the zones that will give him massive support.

Garba added: “We challenge Binta to show that, as one of the stakeholders in the zone, she has substantially promoted the image of the party and the President such that he would be as popular as she wants him to be failing, which we shall consider her postulations as sheer mischief.

“We call on our citizens to discountenance the ranting of Kuraye and disregard her comments as it was done in bad faith. We in the North and especially the North-west zone hold the Vice President in high esteem in view of his outstanding partnership with the President and know that Jonathan/Sambo ticket is always a winning team”
