Obanikoro Quits Jonathan’s Cabinet to Pursue Lagos Governorship

In confirmation of his resolve to contest the Lagos State governorship election,  Senator Musiliu Obanikoro on Monday resigned his appointment as the Minister of State for Defence.

He tendered his resignation letter at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF).

In the letter, Obanikoro explained that he was moved to take the decision because of the need to set the people of Lagos State free from “political and economic bondage.”

Paragraph two of the letter read: “My resignation is anchored on my passion for public service and my aspiration to liberate the people of Lagos State from political and economic bondage and usher the state into a new era of transparency and transformational leadership under an elected Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government.”

The Lagos PDP stalwart, expressed gratitude to President Goodluck Jonathan for the opportunity given him to serve the country.

“I am grateful to your excellency for the confidence reposed in me and for having considered me worthy to serve Nigeria as the Minister of State for Defence at this critical time of our national security. I am deeply humbled,” he noted.

The Ministers of Information, Labaran Maku; Minister of State for Trade and Investment, Samuel Ortom; Minister of State for Education, Nyesom Wike and Minister of Labour, Emeka Wogu as well as the Minister for Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu and Minister of State for Niger Delta, Dairus Ishaku, have all resigned their appointments to actualise their political ambitions.
