No PVC, no voting in 2015, REC reiterates

News » Politics

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Cross River State, Mr. Mike Igini, says no electorate will be allowed to vote in the 2015 general elections without presenting the Permanent Voters Card.

Igini stated this while taking delivery of the Permanent Voters Card as well as materials for the Continuous Voters Registration exercise.

He said the Independent National Electoral Commission in the state would commence a three-day collection exercise of the PVC, adding that the exercise would take place at the polling units where the electorate registered in 2011 in the state.

Igini warned all those that would participate in the forthcoming exercise of the severe five years imprisonment under section 24(2) of the Act on conviction for the offence either of preventing or hindering people from registering during the exercise by way of threats of any kind or by duress.

“Receiving the PVC and participation in the forthcoming CVR is the only means of participating in the 2015 elections. The no-PVC no-access to voting will be applied in that exercise,” he warned.

He said the exercise would commence on August 15 and end on August 17, adding that to collect the PVC, registered voters must have been documented in 2011 with their names displayed.
