Nigeria was Monday drawn in Group B of the Standard Chartered Trophy Final tournament holding Tuesday at Anfield, Liverpool.

Also in the same group are defending champions Singapore, Thailand, India, Korea and the Emirate of Dubai. Nigeria will face Thailand in the group's opening game.

Drawn in Group A is the other African representative Kenya, along with Malaysia, Hong Kong, Bahrain, Indonesia and host country United Kingdom.

The groups will be played in a round-robin format with the top two teams from each group qualifying for the semi-finals. The two semi-final winners will play for the trophy.

Nigeria's captain Funlola Oni expressed optimism about their chances after the draw.

"It will be tough because the defending champions are in our group, but our target is to reach the semis and then we'll see what happens from there," he said. "The boys are in high spirits and we hope to do our country proud."

Team member and journalist, Sola Aiyepeku, is equally upbeat. "I was quite impressed with our boys' commitment at the training ground today (Monday). It is hard to tell who will win the tournament, but Nigeria will make a good impression."
