Less than 72 hours to the deadline for the collection of nomination forms into various elective offices, the new Governor of Adamawa State, Mr. James Bala Ngilari; the immediate past Managing Director of Diamond Bank, Alex Otti, and several other aspirants on Monday picked their governorship nomination and Expression of Interest forms.

Ngilari had his governorship nomination and Expression of Interest form quietly picked for him by two of his special assistants, with a bank draft. They collected the governor’s nomination form from the National Secretary of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Abubakar Mustapha.

So far, Ngilari is the first to pick the Adamawa State PDP governorship nomination form.

Though, PDP had purportedly zoned the governorship election to the central senatorial district when the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Umar Fintiri, emerged the governorship candidate.

Other governorship aspirants like the former Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nuhu Ribadu; Senator Abubakar Gerie and Awwal Tukur stepped down for the then acting governor, Fintiri, but the Federal High Court, Abuja, upturned the table against him when it ruled that Ngilari, as deputy governor, did not resigned in due process.

Though there are plots within the PDP to force Ngilari to contest the senatorial election in his zone, stakeholders in the state are resisting the plot, insisting that Ngilari is eligible to contest the 2015 governorship election.

When the aides of Ngilari came for the payment and collection of the Adamawa State governorship nomination form there was no opposition from the office of the National Organising Secretary.

Another governorship aspirant who collected his governorship nomination form was the immediate past Managing Director of Diamond Bank, Otti.

Speaking with journalists, Otti pledged to transform the main commercial city of Abain Abia State, into a modern Dubai as well as the creation of the Ministry of Aba to recreate and revitalise what he described as the pride of Igbo man in the South-east part of Nigeria.

Otti, who was accompanied by former football star, Austine Jay Jay Okocha, Nollywood Star, Kananyo O. Kanayo, Charlie Boy Oputa and other supporters, denied that the state Governor, Theodore Orji, had already endorsed a successor.

He said a good leader would always ensure that he is succeeded by a competent leader.

Also at the PDP national secretariat to collect his governorship nomination form was Akwara John Ewere from Delta State.

Ewere who is from Delta Central senatorial zone. He pledged to enthrone righteousness, equity; ensure youth empowerment, free technical education and encourage medical tourism in the state.
Tehemen Tarzoor from Benue State also picked his PDP governorship nomination form, stating that he is in the race to fix the problems afflicting the state.

On whether he would accept any consensus candidate, Tarzoor said as a “true party man, I will accept any decision of the party,” stating that he is the candidate to beat for the office of the governor in the state.

Okey Emuchay from Abia State picked the nomination form to contest for the state governorship election as he claimed that he has the magic wand to transform the state to a modern state. He pledged to transform Abia in the agriculture education and Information Communication Technology (ICT) sectors.

He said he joined the PDP since 2012 and therefore has no problem with waivers.

One point of agreement among all the governorship aspirants is the pledge to respect PDP decision on consensus candidate when the case arises.

All the aspirants who picked the forms, said in chorus, “I will respect the party’s decision on consensus. The party is always supreme.”

Meanwhile, a PDP governorship aspirant from Rivers State, Tamuno Sisi Jaja, picked his nomination form yesterday, stating that he would not worry over  alleged the endorsement of the former Minister of State for Education, Nyeson Wike, by the First Lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, as power belongs to God.

According to the governorship aspirant who was reacting to Wike’s alleged endorsement by Mrs Jonathan, “She is an indigene of Rivers State and has every right to express her support to anyone. But the most important endorsement is from God, and as a Christian, I believe that power belongs to God and when God says yes, no one can say no. Whoever she might have endorsed needs the grace of God and that is what I have.

“I’m from the riverine area of the state, which has never produced a governor of the state and I’m a PhD holder and have been in the House of Assembly for 12 years. Equity demands that power should rotate in the state,” he said.
