Labour Party Chieftains Hopeful on 2015 Elections in Oyo

News » Politics

A gubernatorial hopeful of the Labour Party (LP) in Oyo State in the 2015 election, Chief Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, and another chieftain of the party, Wale Olatunji Murphy, yesterday expressed optimism in Ibadan, the state capital, that their party will form the next government in the state.

The duo also took a swipe at the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government in the state, saying it has fallen short of people’s expectations.

Alli, the immediate past chairman of Odu’a Investment Company Limited, who is also a former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), spoke at the kick-off of membership registration exercise of the party in Ibadan North Local Government Area of the state.

The LP membership registration exercise, which commenced on August 5, across the state, is expected to end officially on August 16. The exercise, as gathered, would continue in the 351 wards in the state after August 16.
Alli told journalists shortly after he registered at the Anglican Commercial Secondary Group of Schools, Orita-Mefa, Ibadan that “the reports we got across the state have been very wonderful. People are trooping out enmasse to register as members of the LP, which they see as hope of the future in the state.

“We are the hope of the future because people have been happy, cheerful and jubilating that the party of their choice that will rescue the state has come. The LP will move the state forward. We are very sure, by the grace of God; this party will form the state government in 2015 in the state.

“The good people of Oyo State will vote for the LP candidates for the House of Assembly, National Assembly and governorship elections,” he stated.

Also speaking, Olatunji who was the 2011 gubernatorial candidate of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) told journalists that “people are fed up naturally because a lot of expectations are unfulfilled till now by the incumbent government in the state. We have some few months to the next general election; therefore, we see lethargy from our political leaders.

“The feedback we get on a daily basis is that people are tired of what is going on and their aspirations are not being met within the APC bloc. Therefore, there is a need for people who are really interested in the welfare of the masses to come together and forge a new alliance that would usher in a better leadership for Oyo State. The Labour Party will offer a new dimension and freshness of governance in Oyo State.”

A representative of Hausa community in the state, Alhaji Ahmed Sawaba, noted that he registered as member of LP because “it is the only political party that is carrying non-indigenes along. I am giving you assurance that all in the Hausa community in Oyo State are ready to go along with LP.”

While giving reasons for the community’s preference for LP, Sawaba alleged that the community had suffered serious neglect from the previous and present administrations in the state.
