The Indorama Group says it has adopted the world’s safest and most efficient technologies in the ongoing construction of its $1.2bn world-class fertiliser plant at the Indorama Eleme Petrochemicals (IEPL) complex in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

According to Uptal K. Chatterjee, the technical director of the fertiliser project, the technology for the Ammonia plant is from KBR of the United States of America, while the Urea technology is from Tokyo of Japan. The technology for the granulation plant is also from Tokyo. “These technologies are the best in the world,” he said.

Chatterjee, speaking in the IEPL’s in-house ‘Impact magazine,’ said the ongoing construction of the fertiliser plant, which is expected to come on stream in 2015, has recorded tremendous progress; meeting timelines for completion of different tasks; and accumulating over 3.5 million man-hours without lost time injury (LTI).

The technical director attributed the progress to excellent cooperation that his team is enjoying from the IEPL management, the contractors, bankers, construction workforce and the Eleme host communities.

The fertiliser plant, with a 1.5 million metric ton capacity, which is being built by Daewoo Engineering of Korea, with over 700 Nigerians on site, has reached 75 percent completion. The contractor has deployed about 600 various kinds of machines.

It was gathered that all engineering works are progressing according to schedule; as the company said, with the level of work achieved so far, the Indorama Fertiliser & Chemicals Limited (IEFCL) would meet its completion deadline.

The company is already assuring farmers, agro-dealers and other stakeholders in the agriculture that commercial production of Indorama high quality fertilisers would roll out from its plant in Port Harcourt on schedule.
