Impeachment: Stop Shedding Crocodile Tears, Oyo APC Tells Akala, Ladoja

The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has asked former governors of the state, Adebayo Alao-Akala and Rashidi Ladoja, to stop shedding what it termed “crocodile tears” over the recent rumoured impeachment bid of the state House of Assembly against its party-led government, saying the two governors were products of chaotic governments and cannot now pretend that theirs were governments of peace.

The party made this known in a statement issued by its party chairman, Chief Akin Oke, in reaction to two separate statements credited to the two former governors last weekend.

The APC said the two former governors did not have the moral right to postulate or advise any government on peace, since they headed governments that were renowned for brigandage, thuggery, bloodshed and where peace eluded the people of the state.

“Is it not an irony that Akala and Ladoja would tell us how peaceful our state would be with a House of Assembly that is devoid of rancor? Both of them ran governments whose Houses of Assembly were like Israel and Palestine and the Governor’s Office like Gaza, even when members were of the same Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“It came to a climax when touts stormed the assembly, beat up honourable members to pulp and a chief thug declared the governor ‘impissed’.

Hundreds of our people were felled in the violence and bloodshed that the two of them abetted. Both of them have the blood of our people on their hands,” the APC said.

The APC said  the two former governors were banking on the short memory theory of the Nigerian electorate in seeking to come back to rule the state.

“For how long will they continue to assume that our people have short memories and have forgotten so soon their reigns of terror, incompetence and corruption? For how long will they continue to assume that those who lost their loved ones in the crossfire they both ignited using NURTW thugs will embrace them again at the polls and forget our governor who has been working 24hrs a day for their tomorrow?” the APC asked.

The party said if the two former governors were banking on a repeat of the Ekiti syndrome in Oyo State, they would be thoroughly disappointed as the people of the state pride their tomorrow over the “non-enduring offerings” of today.

“They both forcefully removed the famous Oyo State, the land of firsts, from the radar of development and dragged government to their own levels. In the hands of one, Oyo became no more than a cosmetic kit and in the hands of the other, Oyo became  drab, clueless and without form. It took the pedigree and depth of Governor Abiola Ajimobi to retrieve our dear state from social and governmental disintegration,” the party said.

While advising the two former governors to divert their energies into getting quality lawyers to defend them in the fraud cases levelled against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the APC asked if it was a coincidence that virtually all PDP aspirants to the governorship of the state had fraud cases against them in courts.
The APC said its party-led government would go down in history as the first party in the state to win the governorship seat twice, stating that both Akala and Ladoja would soon be retired from active politics after the 2015 elections.
