Committed to boosting electricity distribution in the South-western states of Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti, the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has procured 200 brand-new transformers to be distributed to areas and communities where the supply of electricity is affected and grossly inadequate among the states mentione

Also, the IBEDC has perfected plan to deploy electronic Point of Sales (PoS) to all business hubs under its jurisdiction in order prevent abuse of various kinds attached to the payment of electricity tariffs, adding that electricity distribution company is upgrading payment options and customer care offices for better performance.

Speaking at IBEDC Customers’ Forum held in Abeokuta on Thursday, Fortunato Leynes, CEO, IBEDC disclosed that series of upgrading operations in form of electricity distribution, payment options, fault detection and repairing, staff restructuring among others are ongoing to ensure mutually-beneficial solutions to power distribution and payment.

While acknowledging the fact that the electricity distribution company has not done much to tackle challenges of operational and infrastructural expansions and upgrading, Leynes said the company had been struggling to shorten the time spent on clearing of electrical faults, appealing to customers “to just be patient as we have pledged to stay true to our mission of “distributing power, changing lives.

“We are pleased to inform you that at the end of October 2014, we shall be celebrating our one year anniversary; and in fact, the privatization of electricity generation and distribution businesses in Nigeria! From the handover till now, a lot of transformation has taken place; staff restructuring, refocusing, recruitments, remodelling and rebranding.

“We have established customer complaint centres and units to address all customer issues bordering on electricity distribution service and customer billing issues.

“We have brought efficiency to our marketing and commercial operations. Physical cash collection which is susceptible to abuses of various kinds is now highly discouraged; payment options have increased; the banks, online and other designated payment points are now more accessible and convenient for payments.

“Very soon, the PoS will be perfected and deployed.  We are also in the process of upgrading our payment and customer care offices for better and speedy performance. IBEDC as an organization with the vision to be the best DISCO in Nigeria is here to discuss and proffer solutions that are proactive and mutually beneficial.”
