GNI Healthcare Limited, a subsidiary of GNI Insurance Company plc, was among top firms that scaled through the National Health Insurance Scheme’s (NHIS) recertification exercise, promising its enrollees of a better and more qualitative healthcare delivery.

The NHIS had in June 2014 engaged the services of PriceWaterhouseCoopers, a firm of accountants and consultants, to re-access the potentials of its accredited Health Management Organisations (HMOs) with a view to building a new responsive and responsible scheme in the country.

The scheme, established under Act 35 of 1999 by the Federal Government, is aimed at providing easy access to healthcare for all Nigerians at an affordable cost through various prepayment systems, concluded the reassessment on September 30, 2014.

As a result of the conclusion of this comprehensively conducted capacity and performance assessment, GNI Healthcare Limited, which is a fully-owned subsidiary of Great Nigeria Insurance plc, scaled this hurdle.

The GNI Healthcare Limited’s giant strides and growth in the last two years is attributable to the effective strategies being adopted by the management of the HMO. These include regular settlement of hospital bills, flexible and comprehensive health packages, regular recertification of provider hospitals and supervision of the provider satisfaction survey, which helps to keep everyone on their toes and ensure maximum quality service delivery to enrollees are achieved.

Furthermore, the enrollees too have the opportunity to send feedbacks to GNI Healthcare Limited through a unique information flow medium that helps to monitor instant healthcare administered and the quality of care received by the enrollees.

This among other initiatives has helped to shore up the integrity and confidence of quality performance in GNI Healthcare among the enrollees, the provider and NHIS and thereby ensuring the fulfillment of one of the cardinal objectives of setting up of the HMO; “to achieve members’ expectations of high quality and affordable healthcare,” according to the company.
