Contrary to an earlier pronouncement from his communications team, President Rodrigo Duterte was not seated beside United States President Barack Obama and United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon at the ASEAN Summit gala dinner late Wednesday night.

Duterte was instead seated beside Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.

Obama, on the other hand, was seated beside Brunei's King Hassanal Bolkiah and Vietnam's Prime Minister Nguyen Xuân Phúc.

Ban was seated beside his wife, Yoo Soon-taek.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) sent a press release saying that Duterte will be seated in between Obama and Ban during the gala dinner.

Obama cancelled his bilateral meeting with Duterte on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit after the Filipino president said he cannot be lectured about human rights.

Duterte, on the other hand, said he cannot meet Ban because his schedule for the ASEAN Summit was already jampacked.
