News » Politics

Adamawa Universal Basic Education Commission said it had registered 240 Almajirai for the National Almajiri Education Programme due to take off in the state.

Dr Halilu Hamman, the Executive Secretary of the board, told the News of Nigeria (NAN) in Yola on Thursday that the state government was fully prepared for the take-off of the programme by putting in place all necessary facilities.

“Under the programme, Federal Government had awarded contract for the construction of six Almajiri schools in the state. Three have been completed while others will soon be completed,” Hamman said.

According to him, the completed three schools have the capacity to accommodate all the registered 240 pupils.

Hamman, who was also a member of the National Committee on Implementation of Almajiri Education Programme, said the state government was prepared to provide free uniforms and other learning materials for the pupils.

He said the commission recently conducted job interviews for some teachers, saying that letters of appointment would soon be sent to successful ones.

On the girl-child education, he said that the state government had established additional 19 and 15 girls’ primary and junior secondary schools respectively across the state.

He said that the issue of non-payment of April salary of teachers was being sorted out with local government chairmen, who had agreed to pay it together with May salary. (NAN)
