David Adedeji Adeleke, popularly known by his stage name Davido, is a Nigerian American recording artist, performer, record producer and co-owner of HKN Music Label. He is from Ogun State, Nigeria.

Davido came to the limelight in the Nigerian music industry in 2011 when he co-produced and released “Dami Duro”. The song was well received throughout Nigeria and beyond. Since then, he has produced for numerous artists, including Naeto C, Skales, Tiwa Savage, and Sauce Kid.


Early Life:

He was born November 21, 1992 in Atlanta, Georgia, USA to Chief Deji Adeleke and Dr. Mrs Vero Adeleke. His father Chief Deji Adeleke is a Nigerian Business Magnet and owner of Pacific Group of companies (a billion Naira conglomerate). His late mother, Dr Vero Adeleke was a lecturer at the Seventh Day Adventist Church owned Babcock University in Ogun state, Nigeria.

Davido has an elder brother Wale Adeleke, and a sister, Sharon (Nee Adeleke). He lost his mother at the age of 12. At a young age, he was relocated to Lagos where he attended an upper-class secondary school known as The British International School. He eventually returned to the US and prior to his final relocation to Lagos, he studied Business Administration at Oakwood University (USA). He is currently studying Business Administration at Babcock University in Nigeria.
According to him, after teaching himself several music production lessons in different studios, he started digging into the world of music while in secondary school.

Music Begins:

Davido began producing at a tender age of 13. After a few self-taught lessons in various studios, he began to explore the depths of music while in high-school as a member of a music group called KB International back in America but It wasn’t working out so he thought it wise to try things on his own and he was right. Still keeping his eyes strongly on the ball when he relocated to Nigeria, he started lending his talents to many up and coming artists based in Nigeria, including Dammy Krane, NPZ and many more, truly defining the afropop and afrobeats sounds.

According to Davido he had been doing music since 2008 but “took it seriously in March 2011”. On his earliest beginnings he says “I was around people that were musically inclined. I love music, and why not do something you love and are happy doing and making money at the same time.”




His debut album wasOmo Baba Olowo”  released in 2012.

In a short space of time after the release of Omo Baba Olowo, Davido developed a huge international fan base of 14 t0 30 year olds across Nigeria, the US and the UK. The young fresh talent’s first single “Back When”, featuring Naeto C, enjoyed massive media attention and airplay online, on radios and TV channels. The work on Davido’s debut album, Omo Baba Olowo began in 2011. “Back When”, his first song ever recorded was produced and released on May 7, 2011. It served as the album's lead single, and received frequent airplay. On May 9 same 2011, the music video of the single was uploaded onto YouTube. It was shot and directed in Nigeria by Clarence Peters.  Davido told Factory 78 TV that he recorded "Back When" in London.  In his own words, the greatest reward so far was “having my family and friends support me on my dream. I can’t ask God for more”.

Within no time, Davido took the Nigerian Music industry by storm when he released “Dami Duro” on October 30, 2011, the song has been said to be one of the Nigerians top hits ever made. It was a leading club song as well as one of radio’s most played songs and was co-produced with Shizzi, The music video for "Dami Duro" was released on January 8, 2012. It was shot and directed in Lagos by Clarence Peters. With Davido and his management team, he put together a first-class, never before seen type video, to back up the banger. Not only did this video create major buzz around websites, TV stations and Youtube, but it was also said to be one of the best videos out of Nigeria. Without saying much, it was evident that Davido was one to watch out for in 2012! He was evidently here to stay, and deliver.

In early 2013, he began recording his second studio album. He released the upcoming album's lead single titled "Gobe”, on February 25th 2013. The song was produced by Shizzi, HKN Music's in-house producer. In Gobe’s video, Davido is beaten up by thugs after winning the girl. It’s a song that exudes fun from start to finish. The music video for the single was shot in South Africa by Godfather Productions. The song was ranked second on Premium Times list of the Top 10 songs of 2013. "Skelewu” was released as the third single from his upcoming album, also produced by Shizzi. It peaked at number 1 on Afribiz's Top 100 chart. The song was ranked 5th on Premium Times list of the Top 10 songs of 2013. It gained popularity in Nigeria after Davido announced the Skelewu dance competition. The song was endorsed by African footballers, Emmanuel Adebayor” and Samuel Eto'o. "Skelewu" was nominated for Song of the Year at the 2014 MTV Africa Music Awards.  The video for "Skelewu" was nominated for Best Music Video of the Year at the 2014 Nigeria Entertainment Awards.

Other songs on the album include “Aye” a love song produced by T Spice and Tchelete (Goodlife), a song done with South African duo Mafikizolo.



“On April 6, 2012, Nigerian Entertainment Today reported that Davido signed a N30 million endorsement deal with MTN. The deal unveiled him as the face of MTN Pulse, a marketing campaign for Nigerian youths. On October 24, 2013, Pulse reported that Guinness Nigeria signed Davido to an endorsement deal.  As part of the deal, Davido performed at the Guinness World of More Concert alongside P-square, D'banj, Wizkid, Ice Prince, Burna Boy, Olamide, Phyno, Chidinma, Waje, and Tiwa Savage, among others. His other sources of income include his ownership of HKN music and numerous endorsement deals. He also tours global and is reputed to be one of Nigeria’s top 10 richest artists.


Davido is the co-owner of HKN Music, along with his elder brother Adewale Adeleke. His label HKN is home to Sina Rambo, B. Red, and DeeKay. He signed an endorsement deal with MTN Nigeria in 2012. He partnered with Guinness Nigeria for the "Guinness World of More" concert in October 23, 2013 at Eko Hotels and Suite, Lagos. He has won numerous awards such as BET Award, a Kora Award, a Channel O Music Video Award among others. The 22 years old Davido recently acquired a mansion in Lekki area of Lagos which was reported to have cost about 140 million Naira.



The Nigerian Pop star, Davido has been in the news severally over photo scandals with different girls taking photos while in bed with him. But he hasn’t let all of that get to him as he has been busy making more music and touring around the world. In an interview with Citypeople, he explained ”I’m single and chilling, I’ m 20 years old”  And to the question of SEX, he replied saying: “…the only Sex I see is when I’m filling in a form and they ask, ‘male or female’ and I choose male.”  He also further explained that at this moment, there is no woman in his life. But Davido is often considered playful and fun loving.

He lives a luxurious life which includes a fleet of cars including a silver 2012 Honda Accord from his ‘Back When’ days, a red 2012 Hyundai Sonata which he won for being ‘Next Rated’ at the 2012 Headies; a white 2012 Audi Q7, a white Chevrolet Camaro and the latest a wealth exuding  Mercedes Benz G55 AMG, a Lagos home and a N6.3million Rolex watch he flaunted on social media saying “been working too hard lately so I decided to spoil myself #Rolex…”

Davido is currently studying Business Administration at Babcock University, he was rumored to have graduated in July, 2014 but quickly got on Twitter to debunk the rumors, stating that he will graduate next year.

He won the 2014 Best International Act Award at the just concluded BET (Black Entertainment Television) Awards in Los Angeles, California USA.

He lives in Lekki a premium residential suburb of Lagos and says he is single
