The Supreme Court of Nigeria also referred to as the APEX court is the highest court in Nigeria and the 3rd Arm of the National Government of Nigeria.

It is made up of the Chief Justice and up to 20 Justices.

Membership is tenured position, with each Justice serving 4 year tenures, although reappointments can allow for a longer tenure.

Prior to 1963 it was called the Federal Supreme Court and was supreintended by the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council. This was however abolished in 1963. The court as currently consituted operates under the guidelines of the Supreme Court Act of 1990 and Chapter VII of the 1999 Constitution.

Its decisions are supreme and binding on all courts in Nigeria, although it can revise its own dictates. It's primary function is the intepretation of law, since the National Assembly is the only body charged with the creation of laws.
