Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (GCFR), is the highest rank in Nigeria's national honours.

The National Honours are commendations given to noteworthy Nigerians and Foreign friends for their achievements in the advancement of the Nigerian society and is not to be confused with the National Merit Awards.

They were initiated by the National Honours Act of 1963 and are the mandate of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The National Honours in ranking order are: GCFRGCON, CFRCON, OFR, OON, MFR, and MON. Other honours also exist for the Armed Forces and Security Services.

In 2018, controvery arose as M.K.O Abiola became the 1st non-head of state to recieve this honour, even while aready dead. It was seen as political ploy by President Mohammadu Buhari to secure the Yoruba Vote.
