That is Phyno's introduction to the world on his debut album, here is Logbaby's Biography of Chibuzor Azubuike (alias Phyno).

Name: Chibuzor Nelson Azubuike

Stage or Nickname: Phyno aka “The Playmaker”

Date of Birth: October 9th, 1986

Height/Weight: 6feet Tall | 75kg

Chibuzor Nelson Azubuike (Phyno aka “The Playmaker” ) is a Nigerian producer, song writer and artist. And a member of Pent House Records; an independent label.

Known as the ‘Man of the year’, for his wonderful chart topping record of the same name he started as a producer in 2003, today he is a household name in Nigeria and abroad.

Phyno grew up in the streets of Enugu City in Enugu State, although his parents are from Anambra state, South East Nigeria. He graduated from IMT (Institute of Management and Technology) with a degree in Public Administration. He is a native of Anambra state and the 4th child in a family of 5.

At a young age he wanted to be a pilot while his father felt he was very handy and should become a doctor. Later one he became disillusioned about a career but his love for music would eventually grow in secondary school. There he learned to play the drums and piano. He wasn’t the best but it encouraged his love for music. His choice of Public Administration was taken out of a need to quiet the traditional Nigerian parents’ desire for a certificate. But by his second year, he was already independent and his music production had started to pay off.

The name Phyno is a high school nickname taken from the word ‘phenomenal’. This he says “is because I always liked to stand out back then in school. My friend, Emeka, was the person that first called me phenomenal, and that was the first time I actually heard that word. He said I was phenomenal and from there we started calling him that, because he always used the word a lot. Then he started calling me phyno and that was how the name stuck to me”.

Music has always been a part of his life, he concedes to being a troublesome student who used to drum in class and eventually he grew a flair for production.

His production credits include records for Flavour, Timaya, Bracket, J Martins etc. He started in Enugu but in 2007 he decided to move to Lagos to tap into the larger music industry scene.

In 2010, he decided to try his talents as an MC, starting his own Rap career under the advice of Ilbliss and today he has transformed the image of the “Indigenous Igbo Rapper”. Asked about his decision to rap in Igbo he says “At first I was bothered but if you knew things about music you will understand that music has no language… One of the biggest songs between last year/this year is `Khona’ and we are in Nigeria, we don’t even know what they are saying, so that’s how music is for you...You don’t need to understand what they say; just go with the flow as long as they come clear when it comes to their visuals so that’s why I take more time in my videos too”.

Phyno had many hits under his belt even before the release of his much anticipated album “No Guts No Glory”. He boasted in his song “No album but am getting milli, and am giving deaf ears to ndi asili (gossipers)”.

Some of his notable songs include, Man of the Year (which talks about his ascendance against all odds), Kush Music, Parcel and the street anthem ALOBAM a tribute to his loyal friends and associates.

“Man of The Year (Obago)” which was shot in Abakpa Nike, Enugu by Clarence Peters, shows indigenous Igbo Rap star, Phyno rocking out to his fans in his‘hood’. ‘Oga Boss’ Illbliss also makes a cameo appearance.

His favorite color is black and he says that he wears glasses a lot because his eyes make him shy.
