Crescent university, Abeokuta was established as a private university by the Islamic Mission for Africa (IMA) in consonance with her doctrine and vision. The operating license from the Federal Government of Nigeria was obtained from the National University Commission in 2005. The mission of the University is to ensure the delivery of University education in ways that recognize personal discipline and integrity and promote positive societal values.

The University is out to assist in closing the widening gap between attainable potential student population and limited space in Nigerian educational system. Thus, the University hopes to produce the kind of graduates that will fit into current economic agenda of the nation. It hopes to gradually ensure total quality assurance consciousness in terms of its staffing, its teaching and learning environment, its equipment support base and its infrastructure and super structural development.

In addition, the University intends to build a new generation of graduates imbued with industry and diligence as well as the inculcation of spiritual reawakening and moral uprightness in the development of humanity. As a unique element, it proposes to assist in the global quest for accelerating the education of the girl child towards the build-up of Women Professionals.

Therefore, all students are welcome in the university irrespective of colour, race, religion, tribe or ethnicity. However, the administration of the University shall be based on the Islamic tenets and practice.

I have pledged my life to develop this vision and I hereby use this medium to invite you to join others that are supporting this mission. May Allah guide us on the right path and grant us paradise.

Training and Entrepreneurship

Training and Entrepreneurship provides opportunities for alternative careers besides the degree programmes of the students.  This is to further enhance employability of our products after graduation.

Although the University is a very young one, it is making giant strides in ensuring the employability of its graduates. An example is in the area of Information and Communication Technology where all our students are compelled to register for Information and Communication Technology certification courses with linkages overseas.  The current facilitator is the New Horizons System Solutions.   Besides, our training programmes expose students to the various investment options in information and communication technology after graduation.

The University also runs programmes in Social and Management Sciences including Accounting, Banking and Finance, Business Administration, etc.  Our Accounting programme is fully accredited by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN). This implies that our students will be exempted from some stages in ICAN professional examinations and some of these students even get chartered before completing their degree programmes.

The University also runs two compulsory entrepreneurial courses to all students.  This exposes the students to the various investment prospects of their degree options. In addition, the University has just concluded plans to set up an Entrepreneurial Centre to train students on alternatively skills outside their degree options.  Each student will be free to take at least two training skills from the following options: tie and dye, candle and soap making, vegetable production, fisheries, and apiary among others.  The students would be well remunerated based on their productivity during the training programme.

In conformity with the national regulation on the programme, Crescent University has its fully established unit for the purpose of arranging and monitoring the students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES). Every set of the university graduates go through the programme at their penultimate year for a total period of six months

Bursary

Being the chief financial officer of the university, I am responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the day-to-day financial administration of this great institution.

The bursary department is responsible for cash office functions which include daily counts and float disbursements, aa well as cash classification and reconciliation.

As a seasoned financial administrator with over two decades of work experience in different financial institutions (local and foreign), I would say applying the appropriate financial principles in-line with well-considered economic fundamentals to the institution’s investments and procurements has served as the pier for achieving and sustaining the financial vision of crescent university.

Before becoming the bursar, I had worked with the mother body of this institution – the Islamic Mission for Africa (IMA).

To create and ensure a virile financial base, such that the university will be rated among top five in Nigeria.
