WHO WE ARE
Chief Rotimi Williams’ Chambers, one of Nigeria’s most senior law firms, has for over sixty-five years made seminal contributions to the evolution and development of law and the practice of law in the country.
Our rich heritage and vast experience, garnered over 65 years of continuous and distinguished practice, are best expressed in our rigorous standards, which combined with technical astuteness and commercial awareness, have served our clients well throughout those years; and continues to do so. These values coalesce in our practical and constructive approach and commitment to maximising our clients’ positions by being continuously innovative in the perspectives we bring to bear.
Our firm continues to be informed and directed by these signposts as we consolidate our position as a leading law firm with a practice range covering corporate, criminal, litigation, mediation and arbitration, commercial and financing, in Nigeria and beyond. Fully conversant with the truth that learning never stops, we are constantly and continuously seeking to tailor and adapt our services to the evolving requirements of domestic and international clientele.
Chief Rotimi Williams' Chambers offers its clients an ethos of professionalism, as well as a complete and comprehensive range of legal services in Nigeria and beyond. These include:
- an abiding commitment to attention to detail, technical astuteness and commercial awareness.
- a belief that included in every specific brief is our own brief to maximise our clients position, within the ample bounds of the law.
- seamless and integrated legal services in every major jurisdiction in the world through our long-standing membership of Terralex, a global body of independent law firms.
- our multi-specialist and client-centric approach to the practice of law, promoting a grasp of the essentials of the client’s core business as an indispensable platform for professional service; enabling counsel to give advice borne of close working-knowledge of the client’ operations and business needs.
- a commitment to develop and build understanding and trust of the client’s need in a way that enhances the relationship between counsel and client.
While the Client Groups of which there are at present 20 is our platform of preference, individual counsel are encouraged to develop interests in particular areas, affording them, the firm and our clients the benefits of a degree of specialisation without the straight jackets they often presage.
Our spread of clientele and their business sectors has enabled the chambers to over the years build a level of proficiency over a wide range of subject matter including but not limited to: Manufacturing; Land Matters; Pharmaceuticals; Canning & Packaging; Lifestyle; Cargo, Courier Services & Logistics; Maritime; Environmental Law; Taxation; Oil & Gas; Banking and Insurance; Information & Communications Technology; Seismography; Construction Law & Civil Engineering Contracts; Mediainter alia. These areas of prior engagement reflect the range (non-exhaustive) of practice areas the firm continues to excel in as well as our willingness to charter new territory.
In responding to clients’ needs, our counsel err on the side of a surplusage of diligence and conscientiousness in the advice they provide; and, counsel’s commercial awareness of his client’s needs makes time-consciousness second nature at Chief Rotimi Williams’ Chambers.
At the heart of how and what we see ourselves as is the pride of place we give the quality of advice we provide. We bring to bear long-standing in-depth knowledge of our jurisdiction, as well as its principal points of interface. Our operational backbone is evident in the integrated team approach we have adopted in serving and servicing our client’s needs. Our ability to leverage a global legal service in Terralex means strong working relationships are woven across all the continents of the world and all its major cities.
In a world of continuously declining response times, having counsel well embedded with knowledge of the client’s business is vitally important. This kind of in-depth knowledge and skill-sets also allow us the flexibility to assemble project-specific teams at short notice.
Being focused on the client is a never-ending task. Our capacity to provide a consistently high quality of legal service is enabled by our unity of vision and purpose. Habitually, we work and train together, enabling us to identify the expertise of appropriate counsel and juxtapose that expertise with the needs of specific clients. All the evidence we have confirms that our cross-specialist approach, allowing our lawyers to offer our client’s advice on a diverse range of subjects, contributes significantly to the development of trust between our lawyers and their clients. We are also firmly committed to the adoption of effective, modern and compatible technology as aides in service delivery.
We believe our approach allows us to provide first-rate service with flexibility. We do not insist on exclusivity so where the client’s best interests recommend working with existing legal advisers, we are willing to participate.
Our International Strength & Strategy
The Terralex advantage allows us to assist our clients with the services of an international network of leading independent law firms. We are able to bring together firms from different jurisdictions to provide the optimum legal expertise, in whatever jurisdiction it may be required. With a network of 151 independent law firms and 14,000 attorneys in nearly 100 countries, Terralex enables us to offer global reach as well as local expertise, assisting clients in locating and choosing appropriate counsel.
We believe, as did our founder Chief Frederick Rotimi Alade Williams, that a good lawyer knows where to find the law. We also believe that our culture and commitment to partnering with our clients is the foundation of our reputation; so we continue to invest in lasting relationships that deliver long-lasting value forclient, counsel and firm. That conviction provides a sense of direction that is evident in our approach to practice through cross-practice Client Groups that have the client as their operational axis.
Our Client Group system positions a team of variously versed counsel – across all grade levels – with particular clients. They, individually and collectively, constitute a Client Group charged with providing a professional service to a particular client, as well as on specific transactions.
A major benefit of this modus operandi is the fact that the client works with a group of lawyers that individually and collectively develop a familiarity and grasp of the diverse range of issues that prevail in that client’s particular realm. This allows the firm to be effective through a familiarity that goes beyond the precision of the law.
