Welcome to Bereton online, in which we guide you on a tour of our esteemed school. We urge you to take your time to understand the contents of these pages which define our school.
We understand what parents are in search of in the education market - a school that offers qualitative education. The environment, quality of teachers, social, moral and ethical standards of the school is of great importance to them.
We are a thriving educational community of students whose parents and guardians have made a decision for their children/wards to study here for specific reasons: well trained staff, intensive curriculum and a stimulating learning environment. These are the foundations upon which our success is built. We lay emphasis on the personal development of each of our student’s abilities and knowledge.
We already have experience and knowledge in education which spans over 27 years. This experience is constantly applied in Bereton using highly seasoned professionals trained and constantly retrained in both the academic and non-academic sections in order to maintain our reputed standard.
We wish you a pleasant trip as you journey through the pages before you and look forward to meeting you.

Bereton Montessori opened on the 10th September 1978 as a pioneer private nursery school in Rivers State with about 120 children in eight classrooms. The Rivers State Government, after the civil war, had approved the establishment of pre-primary (nursery) schools by private entrepreneurs. The Government established a Nursery Schools Authority and went further to start the Seabed Nursery School in Port Harcourt. Pilot nursery schools were also established in various divisions of Rivers State.

In 1978,the Government closed down its nursery schools and invited private proprietors to establish playgroups, pre-nursery and primary schools. Approval in principle was given to such schools already in existence while proper guidelines were awaited. Bereton is unique among various pre-primary and primary schools in Rivers State. It is nit an accident of history, or of local patriotism, but the realisation of a dream.

Chief (Mrs) Victoria Diete-Spiff, Proprietor, says Bereton is a product of love, not investment. She has a natural inclination to care for children. "It is love of children that brought me into this vocation,'' She explains. Liberal, dynamic and mother to all, she always dream of a formal structure where her ideas for the proper foundation of child education would be laid. Her natural sincerity love and passion for quality, courage and integrity made the relationship between discerning parents and Bereton love at first sight. The school was an instant success.

Before long parents pressurised Chief (Mrs) Diete-Spiff to take Bereton standard further by opening a primary school. A good listener and humanist, she yielded to this popular request by adding the primary school section in January 1983. Since then the primary school has come to be the reference point for quality education in Rivers State, and comparable to similar schools elsewhere in Nigeria and Overseas. The primary school has excelled in preparing children for common entrance examinations to private, federal and state government secondary schools; their performance has been vastly impressive.

Understandably, Bereton was among the first to set off private schools to be fully approved by the Rivers State Government in March 1988.
On September 10, that year, Bereton, deservedly, rolled out the red carpet to celebrate its ten years anniversary. Today,25years on, Bereton Montessori glows with success. From a humble beginning in 1978,with 120 pupils, Bereton has grown to a population of over 2000 pupils and more than 200 teachers, from the eight classrooms in 1978,it now spans two campuses with state-of-the-art buildings and facilities, instructional and teaching aids coupled with quality, fully motivated professional teachers.

Bereton Montessori is a product of Love. Love for children and hunger for the best of them. Bereton, meaning "the great decision" in Ijaw Language, sums up the challenge parents and guardians face early in the life of their children.
How best would they prepare them for the arduous but interesting journey through life? How best would they lay a solid foundation upon which the child's lifestyle and career will be built?

Today, the world is moving at a very fast pace; education should be dynamic enough to keep pace with the times. Nigeria's case is rather special. Between declining quality in public schools and the desire of parents to give their children contemporary education lies a conflict. Discerning parents want value-added, functional and responsive education for their children, with appropriate reinforcements in a conducive environment with a global standard structures, facilities, and up to date teachers.

Can parents find all these in one institution in Rivers State?

The answer is Yes! Bereton has through deliberate thought; creative planning and diligent execution positioned itself as the appropriate vehicle for the proper education of the new millennium child who does not just want to see the stars but to touch them.
At Bereton, we are striving relentlessly and diligently to nurture that wish and that great decision of parents and guardians to reality. To us, this is a sacred duty, an obligation that calls for a religious thoroughness. We are equal to the task; our research department is in an endless search for perfection and excellence to serve you better.
Bereton is a partnership with parents and a covenant with excellence.

Our target is to transform our toddlers into knowledgeable and confident children at the end of their stay in Bereton because we agree with WORDSWORTH that the "child is the father of the man". It is on their promising shoulders that the hope for a decent future lies for the family, the nation and the world.
Bereton
is nurturing children that will think and act for Nigeria.

PHILOSOPHY

Bereton Montessori Nursery and Primary School aspires to provide a rich, nurturing and challenging environment for all our pupils. We provide the staff, programs, and environment that best enhance the growth and development of young children. The Bereton philosophy centers on the belief that children are special and active learners who develop best when their daily activities and projects stem from their own needs and interests. Thus, understanding and meeting these needs and interests is of utmost importance to us. We will train up and nurture the total child to be found worthy academically, morally, spiritually and socially.

Every pupil at Bereton Montessori Nursery and Primary School can develop new personal dimensions from this special environment. Pupils would not lose what they are, but will be broadened to become better citizens of the world. Viewing pupils as whole persons, the school is concerned with the spirit as well as the mind and body.
The Bereton philosophy is founded on our knowledge that early childhood development focuses on the five core areas of social, emotional, cognitive, physical and aesthetic development of the individual child. Combined, these form strong building blocks to make it possible for a child to best use his/her intellectual capabilities.

Developing each child's natural curiosity and desire to learn is achieved through a variety of fun and creative age appropriate activities which incorporate all these stages of development. We are dedicated to the creation of an atmosphere where each child is respected and encouraged in a safe, well supervised and clean environment. Because we understand what parents require and what pupils need, we are committed to fostering a positive self-esteem through the cultivation of skills, interests and positive social interaction. This in turn fosters trust and provides peace of mind to parents
