HISTORY

Achievers University was approved by the Federal Government of Nigeria and licensed as a conventional University by the National Universities Commission in 2007. The motto of the University is Knowledge, Integrity and Leadership with a very clear vision to be the best University in Africa and indeed one of the best in the world. The mission of the University is to produce a total man, morally sound, properly educated and entrepreneurially oriented that would be useful to himself and to the society. The University, a product of several years of planning and strategies, was founded by highly spirited Nigerians under the banner of Achievers Educational Investments Limited. 

The University which promises to be an epitome of excellence, commenced academic activities during the 2007/2008 academic session and has been highly commended for taking the right steps in the right directions since her pioneer students resumed. The University is located at Idasen area of Owo in Owo Local Government, Ondo State. Owo is a city which is a distance of 45 kilometres from Akure, the state capital and almost equidistant from Abuja to Lagos. It is about one-hour drive from Benin. The town is host to National Museum, State Hospital, the State-owned Rufus Giwa Polytechnic and the Federal Medical Centre, with which the University has a relationship. The people of Owo are generally friendly and accommodating, and have penchant for farming and trading.

Achievers University is planned and structured to carve a niche for herself in the world of education through her resolve to adopt international benchmark in all areas, including academic curriculum, infrastructure, and general administration. Some of the special features of the University include:

  • Full automation of all programmes including interractive boards in all classes

  • Practical computer literacy programme for all students

  • Provision of accommodation for all students.

The University curricula are enhanced at inception by the following centres:

Centre for Professional Training and Development, which coordinates the professional training and examinations of various professional bodies including ICAN, ATS, CIIN, ACCA, CCNA, COMPTIA, ORACLE, A+, CIBN etc.

Centre for Entrepreneurship provides opportunities for students to be experts in any vocation of interest chosen from a wide field of vocations and cottage businesses.

Centre for Information and Communication Technology provides computer training and support services including interactive boards and E-leaning services to enhance quality of teaching and research.

    The mission of The Achievers University is to provide the enabling environment - both physical and academic - for the production of competent and quality graduates who would be self-reliant, highly productive and globally relevant in every sphere of human endeavour.

STUDENT'S WELFARE

(a)HOSTEL ACCOMMODATION

It is the policy of Achievers University to provide accommodation on campus for all students. The policy is in line with the University’s vision of producing a total man, morally sound and properly educated. This cannot be achieved unless students live in an environment conducive to intellectual pursuit.

There are furnished hostels dedicated to male students and female students. The University plans to commence the construction of additional hostels shortly. As a policy, the University supplies beds and mattresses while students are required to provide their own beddings and toiletries.

(b)HEALTH SERVICES

The University has in operation a Health Centre, which caters for common ailments for both students and staff with provision for referral of serious cases to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo. The Health Centre is run by a full complement of qualified medical personnel (Doctors, Nurses, Pharmacists, Medical Laboratory Technologists etc). The centre, with three wards, also renders sanitary services such as fumigation and environmental cleanliness.

Fresh students are normally introduced to the Centre as part of the orientation programme during which every fresh student must formally register with it.

(c)STUDENTS WELFARE BOARD

Achievers University students have the opportunity of influencing policies on his welfare through the Students’ Welfare Board (STUWEB). Students’ halls of residence and departments are represented in the Board.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

(a) UTME CANDIDATES

Candidates applying to Achievers University are required to have sat for the 2011 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). They must also obtain a minimum of five (5) credit passes at not more than two sittings in WAEC (SSCE), NECO (SSCE) in English Language, Mathematics and three other subjects relevant to the course of study

(b) DIRECT ENTRY CANDIDATES

As for above, but with 2 or 3 subjects at A Level or HSC or ND or NCE or ATS results in relevant discipline. Candidates are also expected to have purchased the Direct Entry UTME form.

In addition, candidates are expected to purchase Achievers University Admission Forms and participate in the screening exercise.

(C) DURATION OF PROGRAMMES

The Degree programmes listed above shall run for duration of 4 or 5 years for UTME candidates and 3 or 4 years for Direct Entry candidates, depending on the programme.

APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION

(a) Applicants who did not make Achievers University their first or second choice of University are to obtain admission forms at the cost of N5,500 from:

  • Registrar's office, Achievers University, Owo.
  • Achievers Educational Investment Limited, 4, Oshuntokun Avenue, Bodija, Ibadan.
  • Achievers Hostel and Guest House, 4, Ayo Akintoba Street, Agbowo U.I., Ibadan.

UNIVERSITY CURRICULAR

The University Curricula are enhanced at inception by the following Centres:

A. CENTRE FOR PROFESSIONAL TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT

This Centre coordinates the professional training and examinations of various professional bodies, including ICAN, ATS, CIIN, ACCA, CCNA, COMPTIA, ORACLE, A+, CIBN etc. Interested students are guided to sit for and pass the examinations of their choice.

The centre had since been registered as a recognized Microsoft testing centre for Microsoft Office skills and has been presenting candidates for the examinations.

B. CENTRE FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND VOCATIONAL TRAINING (CEVOT)

CEVOT provides opportunities for students to be experts in any vocation of interest chosen from a wide field of vocations and cottage businesses. These include snail farming, canerat (grasscutter) rearing, fish farming, animal husbandry, landscaping and beautification, tie and die, web designing and bee keeping, among others.

C. CENTRE FOR INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY

The Centre provides computer training and support services, including interactive boards and e-learning services, to enhance quality of teaching and research to all staff and students. It also organizes short-term certificate programme in Computer Studies.
